It's in a beach, called "Zavial", near Sagres (south-west tip of Portugal). I took some information from a portuguese blogger ( Chibo )

NEW CLIMBING GYM

Portugal doesn't have many climbing gyms. Fortunately, climbing is growing in every ways. More climbers, better climbers, more routes... Were still miles away, since we don´t have a big "climbing culture", but I think this is a happy new for all fanatics and ment-to-be-fanatics.

This is "La expedicione maledita", that can be translated for something like "The damned expedition". My climbing vacation had a plan, that turned out spoiled...

The idea was to go, some days earlier to visit Asturias first, and then, go to Rodellar. Since these friends where only staying for a week, I was going to return with another group, on the 31st of August.

As you can see by the our "self-appointed name", it didn't run the way we've expected. Beside all the things that happen, I had to return with them...

In Portugal we have a saying (sorry but I don't Know a translation ) :"Sadness doesn't pay bills", which means something like, there no sense in complaining of bad things.

Taking this saying for a good example, I've decided to make fun of our endless bad luck.

PORTUGAL 1 - HOLLAND 0

Usually I don't watch football matches, but when Portugal plays, something changes...
I can't explain it but, it just happens. Yesterday, I went to see the match in Faro's downtown (nice city in the south of Portugal). I dressed myself with the colours of my flag and went out with my friends.

I've hatted and loved the game. I didn't like the referee a bit. It's a little suspicious, being said by me but, I keep seeing Portugal in unfair situations...A little coherence, applying the rules...

Where's the fairplay? What have they done to Cristiano Ronaldo? It seemed to me that it was done on purpose, of send him out. The game would have been better if the rules where applied equally. Is it about "may the best win" or "let's kick same ass", take some important players out.

I'm really trill about Portugal being the best team with 11, 10 and 9 players but, it's true that, I get sad thinking that fairplay is vanishing.

Besides all those drawbacks, I love one thing football: People get alive! When else do you see so many people dancing, doing bodypainting, hugging each other, living their houses to sing their country hymn?

I hate to see that only football has money and support from media but, It's good in many ways.

Any Sport should and could be a "Public Relations" of it's country. I risk to say that's the most international language of all.

When will other sports have half of the support?!

Anyway, if this is the sport that's taking Portugal forward, for now, I wish them the best! Next saturday I'll be in red, yellow and green, waiting for a good match.

FIRST 8C in PORTUGAL

At last! The first 8C in Portugal!

It was done by one of the best Portuguese climbers, José Abreu, last sunday.

You can check out about him, in his site www.joseabreu.escalada.com.pt. The only drawback is that it's written in portuguese... Still, you have nice videos and photos to see.

The 8c name is "Acção - reacção", and it's located in Buracas do Casmilo, near Coimbra and Pombal. You can see more about Buracas in the link "Climbing areas".

This weekend there was a climbers meeting in Sagres, one of the best portuguese areas to climb.

Injuries

This is an 8a in Portugal, the one that I expected to be my first of many.
unfortunately, in last December I heard a noise on the finger, and there it was: an injury on the A2 pulley.

I'm still recovering from the finger and shoulders. Sometimes I get really sad but, fortunately, not very often.

Try to see the movie, The Professionals, with François Legrand and Yuji Hirayama, it's great! Besides seeing two of the best climbers, you'll have the chance to gain some more strength, if you're injured.

I've talk to them once, to François in Valence in 2004, and with Yuji in Munich, in 2005. They seemed really nice, talking to everyone that would approach them, although considered legends in our favorite sport .
